Wallace Doubles Down As Gipson Captures Checkers in First Race
By: Jim Bourdon
The racing was as good as we’ve seen all season at the the Brockville Ontario Speedway Kart track. With side by side action and lots of passing, drivers and fans alike were treated to a great show…
First up was the Box Stock 1 Feature. The 76 of Rhylan Poole took the lead from the number three starting position coming off turn 2 from the start of the race and ran unopposed to the checkers ahead of Malcolm Banks, Max McBride and Carter Bingley.
Up next was Box Stock 2 Bryson Winters would lead early front the outside of the front row. The race was slowed twice as Lachlan Anderson had issues with his machine. On the lap 6 caution, Anderson’s machine was unable to re-fire and he was forced to sit out the rest of the feature. This left Winters and Keegan Elliott to fight it out for the win. After a great run by both drivers, Winters held on to come out on top with the win.
Trey Lauzon would start on the pole for the Rookie 1 feature and byt the time the field had made their way out of turn 2, Max Perto had worked his way to the second position from his number 4 starting spot. Barron Greer spun on lap 2 after contact from the 18 of Blake Smith. Both drivers would restart from the rear of the field. While Lauzon would lead the rest of the way, the battle through the rest of the top 5 was fierce as Lauzon would take the checkers over Perto, Dylan Moore, Grayson Reddick and Barron Greer.
Braxton D’Alessio was looking to keep his perfect record intact in the Clone feature, but from the start, Jordan Wood and Trent Wallace served notice that their time had come. Wood would lead early and after a caution on lap three, the battle for the lead would really heat up. Wallace would take the lead from Wood on lap 5, with Wood taking it back on lap 6. Wallace would once again take the lead on lap 7 as the D’Alessio machine would spin off turn 2. The caution would fly twice more, but it made no difference to Wallace as he would capture win number one on the season – and the night!
Kyle Stewart led the field to green for the Rookie 2 feature, but it was Landon Slinger taking the lead by the time the field had worked its way to turn 4 from the seventh starting spot! Slinger would hang on to the lead until lap 8 when Kalen Draper would work his way underneath as the 29 got wide off turn 2 and rejoin the field in 5th. A lap 9 caution for Brayden Comeau and Brennan Moore would slow the field. But when racing resumed, it was all Draper, as he was able to cross the line ahead of the four way battle for second that saw Brenan Moore charge back from earlier troubles ahead of Brayden Comeau, Landon Slinger and Kyle Stewart.
In the Junior Restricted feature, Trent Wallace took the lead from his third starting spot off turn 2, but by the time the field was in turns 3 nd 4, Jacob Herbison had stolen the lead away from the number 9 starting position! Wallace would retake the lead on lap 7 and lead the remainder of the race, crossing the finish line ahead of Zach Renaud, Jayden Comeau, Jacob Herbison and Tyler Stewart.
Ethan Bressard took an early lead in the Stock Light feature but contact with Evan Reynolds sent both drivers to the rear by the end of lap one. This handed the lead to Eric Castonguay.Joey Massey would spin off turn 2 on the second lap and some very tight racing saw the ride of Xavier Perrin sideways on the backstretch for caution number three. Caution would fly twice more this feature, but Castonguay would hold off multiple challenges from eventual runner-up Chris Pryor. Dylan Tinkler would cross the line in third, ahead of Ethan Bressard and Evan Reynolds.
Jason Schomberg would lead the Stock Heavy feature early in the ride normally driven by Steve Grabalowski. Tim Bailey would eventually work his way to the lead and looked poised to capture his first win of the year. Raymond David and Randy Revelle had worked their way to the second and third positions respectively. When the white flag flew, David did all he could to get around the Bailey-driven machine. In the end the two made contact, sending Bailey around in front of the field. A pentalty was assessed to David and the win went to first time driver Brad Gipson, Second went to Randy Revelle, followed by Ryan Roth, Raymond David and Mark Bailey.
