Barefoot, The Master of Going Faster, whatever you wanted to call him, he will go down in history as one of the greatest drivers to ever strap on a helmet and drive a race car. His name was Bob McCreadie.

This past Wednesday McCreadie passed away at the age of 74 and over his career he left his mark at many area speedways, one of those was Brockville, where he saw plenty of success.

July. 8th 1977 Barefoot claimed his first ever Brockville win, the first of his 23 trips to the winner’s circle at The BOS. Bob also claimed the first of his two track titles in 1979, winning 9 races.

Bob would return to the top of the mountain, as he battled Sydenham Ontario’s John Dahm in 1984, eventually claiming the track title again with 5 victories.

He would claim his final Brockville win, when the speedway was reopened for special events in 1992. He was later inducted into the Brockville Ontario Speedway Hall of Fame in 2013.

Over the years Bob went on to do many great things including winning the Super DIRT Week 358 Modified race in 1984, Super DIRT Week Big Block event in 1986, three Super DIRTCar Series championships, along with 39 series wins and wins from Quebec to Australia.

He never strayed too far away from the track, often bringing his iconic Kinney Drugs Number 9 to the speedway for test sessions, as he continued to search for speed.

This week staff, management and the fans will pay tribute to McCreadie during the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series, as the DIRTCar 358 Modifieds will not only have their 50-lap feature event, but the qualifying heat races will be 9 last in distance to honor the Brockville Speedway Hall of Famer.

Also on hand will be the DIRTCar Sportsman portion of the Triple Crown as they’ll go 40 laps in distance. The Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints will be on the card plus the Novice Sportsman and the Street Stocks. Gates open at 4 pm with hot laps and time trials to follow.

The first green flag of the night will fly at 6pm.
