With the threat of weather and a small shower that touched down in the area during the night, it didn’t stop the evenings program which included a big event for the Mini Stocks and the return of a weekly division for the first time in over 20 years.
The Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club was set to go for 20 laps and Mason Barkley was looking to get back to victory lane after finishing second the night before at Can Am. Barkley held the lead over veterans Greg Hale and Pete Stapper in the early laps, but contact between Hale and Dexter Billings resulted in heavy damage for Billings and an early end to the night. On the restart Stapper would take over the lead with Barkley and Hale, who was running with a flat left front tire in third. Despite several attempts to get the lead in the final laps it would be another runner up finish for Barkley as Pete Stapper, would claim another Brockville Vintage win. Barkley finished a close second with Greg Hale finishing third with a flat left front, Chris Wilson and Joey Hilts completed the top 5.
The DIRTCar Sportsman division was set for 25 laps and Greg Brinklow was the dominant force as he led early over Michael Dillon, Kraig Handley, Tyler Stewart and Xavier Andrews. The way the race was going, it looked like Brinklow was well on his way to his first career win, but Xavier Andrews was charging forward. Andrews would move to the top 3 on lap 6 and then get by Michael Dillon for the runner up spot, but still had a long way to go to catch Brinklow. With just under 10 laps to go, Andrews was closing in on the leader and a battle ensued. Over the final laps Brinklow held a slight lead but Andrews kept putting the pressure on and finally got an opportunity. On lap 23 Andrews made his way to the lead and would pull away to score his first win of the season. Brinklow’s first win would have to wait another week as he scored another runner up finish. Kraig Handley finished a career best third with Bobby Herrington and Brennan Moore finishing 5th.
Terry McClelland was looking to pull off one of the biggest upsets at the speedway in the 30 lap DIRTCar 358 Modified division as he led the opening 8 laps, with Joe Banks, Chris Ferguson, Tristan Draper and Johnathon Ferguson filling out the early top 5. McClelland was running away with the race until the yellow flew which gave Joe Banks an opportunity. On the restart Banks jumped to the top spot and began to open up a slight lead but defending track champion Ryan Arbuthnot was on the charge and looking for another win. On lap 11 Arbuthnot cruised past both Draper and McClelland to take over the lead and begin to dominate another feature at The BOS. Behind Arbuthnot Draper held 2nd but Kyle Dingwall Johnathon Ferguson and Danny O’Brien were having a great battle for position. In the end, even with a quick yellow on lap 20, Ryan Arbuthnot was not to be denied as he scored his third win in 4 tries in 2023. Tristan Draper, Kyle Dingwall, Johnathon Ferguson and Danny O’Brien completed the top 5.
Maddie Wallace had the field covered in the 12 lap Novice Sportsman feature and was well on her way to her first ever win. She took the lead early and held a straight away advantage over Matt Pruner and Skylar Ladouceur. As the laps clicked off with the big lead Wallace had, there appeared no possible way anyone was catching her. On the final lap off turn 2 Wallace slowed with a problem and coasted into turn three. Matt Pruner, who was over a straight away behind, would get by for the lead and claim his 2nd win in 4 weeks. Trey Ladouceur would cross in second in his first ever appearance, while Skylar Ladouceur, Melcolm Banks and Nicolas Mainville completed the top 5.
The second round of the Eastern Ontario Mini Stock Showdown Series was set for 25 laps and the intermission redraw put Max Steele on the pole. Steele would get the jump on the field but it was short lived as James Clarke, Travis Lamarche and Pierre Picard all got by on the high side, with Clarke leading the way. Clarke was stout in the first 8 laps until Dakota Boal caught fire in turn 1 and the red flag flew. Boal climbed from the car and was not injured. On the restart and the remaining laps James Clarke would lead but Pierre Picard was not making it easy on him. The two drivers put on a great show for the fans as their spirited battle took place in traffic and out of traffic through out the event. On the final lap traffic became a factor one more time. Heading to the checkered flag Picard drove to the bottom but Clarke had just enough left to grab his second series win and 2nd in a row in Mini Stocks at Brockville. Picard would settle for 2nd over Travis Lamarche, Hayden Brown and Matt Boal.
Josh Powers had a very successful season in the DIRTCar Sportsman ranks in 2022 winning two races. This season with family commitments, Powers decided to scale back his racing and run the 70s and 80s portion of the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club and did not appear to slow down. Powers was dominant in the 20-lap feature, with Chad Lackie, Paul Billings, Jason Riddell and Steve Billings trying to keep pace. With Powers out front and clearly dominant, Jason Riddell was doing all he could as he charged to second around Lackie, but had to make up nearly a half track to catch the leader. Without help from a caution flag and a big lead Jason Riddell and the rest of the field had no chance of catching Powers. After breaking a rear end at Can Am on Friday night, Josh Powers made up for it as he scored a big win with Riddell second. Steve Billings, Randy Gaudet and Chad Lackie completed the top 5.
PM Promotions DIRTCar Pro Stocks returned as a regular class in 2023 and the racing was just as intense as it was many years ago. Stephane Lebrun led early in the 15-lap event, but Tyler Bushey was on the charge in second with Burton Ward in third. Lebrun led the way until a quick caution flew on lap 8, bunching up the field. On the restart Bushey nearly went off the top side of turn 1 and 2 allowing Lebrun, Ward and Joel Herne to get away. Bushey would rebound as he made his way to second and closed in on the leader. With 6 laps to go Bushey was able to get by Lebrun and would go unchallenged in the remaining laps, to win his first regular Pro Stock feature at Brockville, after winning a DIRTCar Series race in 2019. Lebrun crossed 2nd with Joel Herne Burton Ward and Roch Aubin rounding out the top 5.
Next week Draper Doors will be on hand as the night’s sponsor and as the DIRTCar 358 Modified and DIRTCar Sportsman will be roofless. The Surprenant Truck Shop Action Sprint Tour East Series returns to the speedway plus Novice Sportsman and Street Stocks. The first green flag drops at 7pm.
